Water Services
Bahir Dar Water and Sewerage Service (BDWSS) provides water from three high-yield springs—Tekur Wuha, Lomi, and Arekie—and thirty-four boreholes, producing an estimated 23 million cubic meters of water annually. The utility operates 13 reservoirs with a total capacity of 22,075 m³ and distributes treated water through over 600 kilometers of main pipelines.
Key Responsibilities: BDWSS focuses on:
Water Production and Quality Assurance: Ensuring safe drinking water.
Network Maintenance: Expanding and maintaining the water supply infrastructure.
Pressure Management: Reducing leaks and optimizing distribution.
Community Access: Improving water access for low-income households through initiatives like interest-free loans for connections.
Despite infrastructure limitations and non-revenue water losses, BDWSS is committed to enhancing service delivery and ensuring equitable access to clean drinking water for all residents.
