Sewage Services

Sewage Services

Bahir Dar city currently does not have a dedicated Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant, resulting in the disposal of fecal sludge at an open dumping site called “Koshe,” situated on the outskirts of town. The Bahir Dar Water and Sewerage Service (BDWSS) is nearing the completion of the tendering process for constructing a new treatment facility. Currently, BDWSS operates one vacuum truck for sludge collection, while private operators manage around ten additional trucks within the city.

To tackle sanitation issues and reduce open defecation, BDWSS has built over one hundred public and communal toilets across Bahir Dar. These initiatives aim to enhance sanitation services and improve public health in the city, addressing the significant environmental and health challenges of inadequate waste management.
